A Quick Guide to Scooter Rental in Da Nang
If you suffer from attention deficit disorder, or simply can’t be arsed to read much, here is the key info you need to know before renting a motorbike in Da Nanag
Where to rent a scooter
There are sh!t loads of places to rent a scooter in Da Nang. Every cafe, pet shop and laundry seems to double up as a bike hire shop. But, if you want to go to the best, most reputable scooter hire store in the city, head to Tuan Motorbike Rental Da Nang. You won’t be disappointed.
Cost to rent a scooter
The average cost to rent a 110-125cc motorbike in Da Nang is 120 – 150K VND per day. This depends on the bike and the duration of the rental. I’ll give more detailed info on this later.
Get the right licence
If you want to ride legally in Da Nang, and all over Vietnam, you need to have an International Driving Permit. Without one police can fine you and your travel insurance could be voided if you have an accident. It’s the main document you need when hiring a scooter in Da Nang.
Right, that’s the super short guide to Da Nang scooter rental. If your thirst for knowledge isn’t quenched yet, scroll on.
Where to Rent a Scooter in Da Nang in 2024
Like I just said, there are loads of bike hire stores in the city, but I’m not going to bore you with a list of them all, that’s what Tripadvisor is for. Instead, here are, in my opinion, the best three places to rent a scooter in Da Nang.
Tuan Motorbike Rental Da Nang – My personal favourite
When in Da Nang I’ll always contact these guys first to arrange my scooter needs for my stay. All you need to do is drop them a message on WhatsApp or contact them through their website with your dates and the size of bike you’re after and they’ll do the rest.
If you want to zip around the city, a 110cc will do you fine, but if you want to travel to another city you should rent a 125cc at the least.
That’s another beauty about this scooter rental store, they offer one-way rentals from Da Nang, so you can ride your bike to places like Hue, Hoi An or even Ha Noi if you’re feeling adventurous. Check out their page about one-way scooter rentals on their website if you’re interested. There are some blog posts with loads of info for you to plan your trip.
They have stock ranging from 110cc mopeds up to proper, serious bikes like a Honda 600 and X-Max. I like to look at those and make cooing noises, but then reverie back to the safety of a trusty 125cc. That’s my limit!

The Motorbike Station Da Nang – The top-rated option
Next up on the list we have the most popular option when it comes to Da Nang scooter rental. The Motorbike Station has over 1000 reviews on Google and comes with a solid 5-star rating. So, unless they’re expert manipulators of the Google review system, you can be sure that they know a thing or two about renting scooters out to travellers.
I personally haven’t used them, but two close traveller friends of mine swear by them. Their ringing endorsement added to the insanely good reviews makes them deserving of a spot in my list of the best places to rent a scooter in Da Nang. I usually only recommend places I’ve used, but it seems wrong to ignore these guys.
Prices online are in USD and start at $7 per day. If you rented a basic scooter for a month it would cost $150, which is $5 per day.
You can make contact through the website, by email or by sending a WhatsApp message to Mr Lee.

Binh Minh Motorbike Hire – A cheaper option
Taking up the last spot on the list of the best bike rental stores in Da Nang is Binh Minh. It’s the cheapest option of the three. You can get a basic scooter for 80,000 VND per day if you rent it for three days. It’s 120,000 VND just for one day.
There is a shop but they actively say it’s not always manned. But don’t worry, I wouldn’t recommend a rental company that might or might not be open. You can contact them 24/7 on WhatsApp and they’ll help you from there. Just tell them the dates you want to rent the bike and what bike you’re after. You can check them out on their website.
When it comes to Da Nang scooter rental you won’t find many better prices in the city. Apart from some dodgy characters of course. But trust me, you want to avoid bad eggs at all costs. It’s not worth the small saving to risk your wallet or even your life.

Da Nang Scooter Rental – The Rules
Right then, let’s get to the boring part, the rules. It’s not fun but it is clever to know them.
Get the right licence
If you think that by travelling you’re free of rules and restrictions, you’re not. The local police won’t take your free and easy attitude as an alternative to the licence that they want to see.
That licence is an IDP. Or to give it its full name, an International Driving Permit. This little booklet is what you need to have to ride legally in Da Nang and all over Southeast Asia.
If you haven’t set off yet you can get one from your home country. In the UK it’s easy to obtain one from the Post Office. If, though, you’re already away on your adventures, fear not, as thanks to modern technology and the guys at the International Drivers Association, you can get one emailed to you in a matter of minutes.
It’s not free, but once you get one it can last for up to five years and it’s cheaper than getting fined by the local police. Plus there’s a feeling that you can’t put a price on. When you whip it out and surprise the officer with your correct documents and are begrudgingly waived on your way. That feels so sweet!
So, although it doesn’t seem cool, and you want to save all of your money for cheap hostels, booze and debauchery, do yourself a favour and get an IDP. You’ll thank yourself for it later.
Use the code IDPSketchy10 at the checkout stage to get your 10% off.
You don’t need a licence to rent a scooter in Da Nang, but you do need one to legally ride one. Most rental companies won’t care if you have one or not. It’s the police that care. Don’t forget to use the code IDPSketchy10 at the checkout stage to get your 10% off.
Wear a helmet
Another boring one I know, and yes, I know that most travellers don’t wear one but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. If they all had herpes would you want that too?
Sorry, that was a bit drastic, but when you’ve seen so many bike accidents it always baffles me that travellers, some who are inexperienced riders, won’t wear helmets. Yes, it’s hot, and maybe you have beautiful hair, but look after yourself and just put it on.
Don’t drink and ride
A self-explanatory one here, but one that needs reiterating. Don’t get drunk and ride your scooter. It’s a mad thing to do.
Is it worth renting a scooter in Da Nang?
I’m going to end with what I should probably have started with, is it actually worth it? It’s worth thinking about one more time because not everywhere is worth renting a bike along the traveller trails.
Islands are always a yes in my opinion. Sleepy countryside towns like Da Lat or Pai are also perfect for scooter exploring. But if you’re in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, I’d beg you to reconsider. So where does Da Nang fall on this scale?
Firstly, it’s a proper working city. There can be some bad traffic at times, which puts a dampener on your perfect picture of zipping around without a care in the world. So, if you’re just planning on staying in the city itself I wouldn’t bother. Especially if you’re an inexperienced rider.
If you’re planning to venture out of the city centre, or even take a trip to neighbouring cities like Hoi An, then yes rent a scooter in Da Nang and get out there.
The overall cost of scooter rental in Da Nang
As I’ve touched on earlier, the average price for scooter rental in Da Nang is 150,000 VND per day. Renting a bike for three days or more is likely to lower that price slightly. But don’t expect a big drop. Monthly rentals can bring the price down to about 80 – 100,000 VND per day.
A deposit is needed 80% of the time. Some rental companies are very trustworthy and don’t ask for one, but most will ask for either your passport or a cash deposit of around 1,000,000 VND.
There you have it, my ultimate guide to Da Nang scooter rental. Have fun out there!

About the author – The Sketchy Traveller
I’m not really a stickman, but it seems that I like portraying myself as one.
I’m an English guy who’s been travelling since 2017. I was never good at taking photos, sketching just seems to work better for me, and in my opinion, why do you want to see other people’s 4K videos and pictures of the world? Surely it’s better to see it for yourself. You can get in touch through the contact page or Instagram.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Happy travelling.
