Quick Guide to The Best Sports Bars in Koh Samui
If you can’t be bothered to read all about the best sports pubs on the island, here’s my super-short guide to the best ones in the three main areas of Koh Samui.
- Black Duck Sports Bar – The best in Chaweng.
- The Doghouse Sports Bar & Grill – The best in Bangrak.
- Woodys Bar – The best in Lamai.
There are tons of options when it comes to taking in some sport on the island. If you want to know why those three are my favourites, and discover some other great sporty pubs, read on, it won’t take long.
Best Sports Bars Near Chaweng Beach
Most people head to the lively Chaweng beach area of Koh Samui for all things bar-related. So let’s start our list there.
Black Duck Sports Bar – Wall-to-wall live sport
Located in the ever-popular Chaweng area of Koh Samui, is Black Duck Sports Bar. It’s my favourite place to watch the match. Here’s why:
There are more screens than you can count. Seriously, I tried but gave up.
They show every sport you can imagine. And if what you want isn’t on, just ask and they’ll find a screen for you and put it on. English Football and Aussie sports take priority, but with so many screens you can watch whatever you want here.
Hungry? There’s a huge menu; pizzas, burgers, local Thai food, Irish stew, and sausage sandwiches with HP sauce, are just some delights on offer for you to munch on while watching the live sport.
As with any decent sports bar in Thailand, there’s a free pool table meaning you can play a bit of sport here too. If it’s busy, just add your name to the list of a ‘winner-stays-on’ tournament. Which is always a great way to make friends.
The beer selection is great here too. Guinness is on tap and they know how to pour it properly too! There are loads of bottles of cider available too, along with the local classics like Chang and Leo.
If you’re looking for the best sports bar in Koh Samui to watch the Euros, this is my recommendation.
If Formula One is your sport of choice this is the best sports bar in Koh Samui to watch the race. They show all the practice rounds and qualifying here too. So if you’re an F1 superfan, this is the sports bar for you.
Opening times: 10:00 – 02:00
Address: Chaweng Yai Soi 4 Bo Put, Amphoe Ko Samui, 84320, Thailand
The Islander – More of a sports restaurant
Next up on my list is The Islander. This is more of a restaurant than a sports bar but it’s still a great place to catch some live action.
There are still plenty of screens dotted around, giving you a great view of the actions. The main difference is that the tables are set out in a restaurant-style rather than what you’re likely to see in a busy bar.
Heaps of food options are available, with both Western and local tastes catered for. And as they open at 8 am, this is the best place to watch sport while having breakfast. Something I always take great pleasure out of, especially when it’s already over 20’C outside. What a way to start the day. Beer is optional but recommended.
If you prefer a liquid lunch, that’s cool, it’s not like they’ll only let you in if you have a three-course meal. Most cocktails are priced at 100 THB all day every day, and the beer is the cheapest of all of the sports bars I visited in Koh Samui.
So if you want to relax in a restaurant setting but still be able to watch multiple sports on big screens around you, this is the one for you.
Opening times: 08:00 – 02:00
Address: 166, 79 ถนน หาดเฉวง, Bo Put, Ko Samui District, Surat Thani 84320, Thailand
Hooters Samui – An American restaurant with local Hooters girls
Hooters is what you’d expect. An American-themed sports bar with pretty waitresses who all seem to have shrunk their uniform in the tumble dryer.
As well as having some of the finest-looking staff, this is also the most modern sports bar around, and you’ll find it in the heart of Chaweng. There are loads of shiny new big screens all over the bar, so you can be confident they’ll be showing what you want to watch.
But all this modernity and attractiveness comes at a price, as it’s also the most expensive sports bar on the island. But they do have some of the cleanest toilets I’ve seen anywhere in Thailand.
The food all comes from a classic Tex-Mex-themed menu, so if that’s your thing and you don’t mind getting distracted from the sport by orange hotpants and jiggling owls, get yourself to Hooters and enjoy what’s on offer.
Opening times: 14:00 – 01:00
Address: 168/59 M.2, T, Ko Samui District, Surat Thani 84320, Thailand
Duke Pub & Restaurant – An English sports pub
Last up on the list is the Duke Pub & Restaurant. This is an English-themed sports pub located on one of the busiest streets in Koh Samui.
There aren’t many TVs in this pub, but I’m still classing it as a sports bar because it has a huge projector screen that comes down for all of the big sporting events. So you might not be able to watch loads of different sports simultaneously here but if there’s a big match, race or fight going on, you can be sure that they’ll have it on the big screen.
As you’d expect from an English pub, the food is mostly based around potatoes, pies, steaks and burgers. This is without doubt the option if you want a traditional English breakfast.
Opening times: 09:00 – 02:00
Address: 12 Chaweng Beach Rd, Ko Samui District, Surat Thani 84320, Thailand
Best Sports Bars in Bangrak
Another popular area of Koh Samui is Bangrak. So let’s check out the best places to watch sport up near the pier.
The Doghouse Sports Bar & Grill – The biggest menu I’ve ever seen
This is my favourite bar in the Bangrak arena of Koh Samui. There are four big-screen TVs inside, along with a free-to-use pool table.
As with most places on this list, it has a Western-themed food menu. You can get anything you’d expect to get from your local back home. A whopping 137 dishes are on their menu, so you’ll find something that takes your fancy while watching the match.
Their four screens will often show different sports simultaneously, but EPL, NRL and AFL take priority over other sports. If they’re not showing what you went to watch, just ask them and they’ll probably have no problem accommodating you.
Opening times: 13:00 – 00:00
Address: Bo Put, Ko Samui District, Surat Thani 84320, Thailand
Premier Sports Bar – Great for English football
If football’s your thing, head to Premier Sports Bar in Bangrak.
All EPL football is shown here, but fear not other sports lovers all other major sporting events are shown here. There are a few TVs dotted around but it’s the giant projector screen that gets the most attention.
There’s a free pool table so you can play some sport in this sports bar as well as watch it on TV.
One difference about this bar is that there are many low comfy sofas around, which create a chilled-out atmosphere. Another bonus at Premier Sports Bar is the prices. It has some of the cheapest beer and food of any pub on this list.
Opening times: 16:00 – 02:00
Address: 4171 Moo 1 Bangrak, Koh Samui, Surat Thani 84130, Thailand
Best Sports Bars in Lamai Beach
The final area that offers a couple of decent sports bars is Lamai Beach. Here are the best places to watch the match down on the coast of Koh Samui.
Tropical Tony’s Sports Bar & Diner – Yorkshire puddings and sausage rolls
This is a small and cosy bar with three screens that can show different sports at the same time.
It’s tropical by name, but not by menu. Some of the best English food in Koh Samui can be found here. Yorkshire puddings, sausage rolls and baked beans are the kind of things you can tuck into when you’re watching sport on TV.
The only downside to this sports bar in Lamai Beach is its limited opening hours. It’s only open for a few hours in the afternoon and evening.
It is, though, one of the cheapest sports bars around.
Opening times: 16:00 – 21:30
Address: 124 Holiday Park Ko Samui, Chang Wat Surat Thani 84310, Thailand
Woody’s Bar – Free to play pool table and darts board
Last but by no means least on my list is Woody’s Bar. This is one of the best English pubs in the Lamai area of the island and one of the few pubs that also show sport on multiple TVs.
There’s a pool table and a darts table to entertain you. Both are free to use.
Unlike the other sports bars on this list, Woody’s doesn’t sell food, it’s an old-school bar that just serves booze and shows sport on TV.
Opening times: 13:00 – 02:00
Address: 124/85 Moo3, Maret, KOH Samui, Surat Thani 84310, Thailand
So there you have them, now you know where to go to get the best sports watching experience on the island. Enjoy, I know I did!
