Ultimate Guide to The Best Spots to Watch the Match

If you, like many others, suffer from a short attention span and can’t be bothered to know why these sports bars are the best in the city, here are the names and links to the best three.

So there you have the three best sports bars in Chiang Mai. If you want to know why they’re so good, and what makes them different to each other, fight that short attention span syndrome and read on for another minute or two. I’ll also tell you about two more in the city.

The 5 Best Sports Bars in Chiang Mai

Right, let’s get into why these are the best places to watch live sport in the city.

The Score Sportsbar & Restaurant – The most popular

We’ll start with what is the most popular sports bar in the city: The Score Sportsbar & Restaurant.

Eight big screen TVs are all showing sport throughout the day. They have access to over 600 sports channels can offer you whatever it is you want to watch. And as with any good sports bar in Thailand, if what you want to watch is being shown, just ask them and they’ll put it on for you.

They keep their upcoming sports schedule up to date on their website. Usually highlighting all of the AFL, NRL, Rugby League, Premier League, Formula 1 and MotoGP that they plan to show that week.

There’s also a pool table and a couple of dart boards inside, so you can play and watch sports all day long if that’s how you want to spend your time.

If you fancy some grub while watching the match you’ve got plenty of options here. There’s a huge menu offering both Western and Thai dishes so you’ll probably find something to snack on during half-time. If you much prefer Western food, I’d probably suggest going to the next place on my list, as they do it better. But if you want Thai food, Score will do you well.

Opening times: 11:00 to 01:00 seven days a week

Address: 25/5-6 Ratchawithi Road, Si Phum Sub-district, Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand

U.N. Irish Pub & Restaurant – My favourite

Next up is my personal favourite when it comes to watching live sport in Chiang Mai. I like it because it is a sports pub, and being English I do love pubs.

Located inside the ancient walls, The U.N. Irish pub is a huge pub with loads of TVs spread out over two floors. If there’s a big game on I recommend heading upstairs as there’s always a great atmosphere up there. One time it was so packed that the staff were concerned that the ceiling might fall through to the people below. It didn’t, but maybe next time.

The best Guinness in Chiang Mai

As you’d expect from a great Irish pub, the Guinness here is the best in Chiang Mai. The staff have been told how to properly pour a pint of the black stuff.

This is the best spot to watch European sport, especially the EPL and UCL, mainly because this is where most UK and Irish travellers will head to when there’s a big game on. They still show Aussie sports and every other kind of sport you can think of, but it creates the best atmosphere of any sports bar around for football matches.

If you’re looking for the best place to watch the Euros, this is my recommendation.

You can keep up to date with their planned sports schedule by checking out their Facebook page.

There’s a huge food menu to choose from, including some of the best traditional Irish and British food in Chiang Mai, if not all of Thailand!

Opening times: 09:00 to 23:00. Closed on Tuesdays

Address: 24, 24/1 Ratvithi Rd, Si Phum Sub-district, Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand

Downunder Pub & Bistro Best for Australian sport

Next up on the list is one for you Aussies out there. Downunder Pub & Bistro is the best place to watch AFL and NRL in Chiang Mai. The other bars on this list will show Australian sports too, but if you want to be surrounded by your fellow countrymen this is the sports pub for you.

NRL AFL Chiang Mai
The best sports bar in Chiang Mai for Aussies

You can be sure that nothing will take precedence over Aussie sports. This bar is run by Aussies for Aussies.

The walls are covered in Australian sports memorabilia and the traditional Aussie food menu makes this sports bar a home away from home for Aussie expats and travellers.

It’s located near the river, so a few minute’s ride away from the East Gate of the ancient wall.

Opening times: 12:00 to 00:00 seven days a week

Address: 186/1, Loi Khor Road, Chiang Mai 50100, Thailand

Winstons Pool & Sports Club – Best option near Nimman Road

Next up on the list is Winstons Pool & Sports Club It’s located past the northwest corner of the walls on the way to the busy Nimman Road junction near Maya Mall.

There are four big screen TVs and one large projector, all showing different sports at the same time. The projector is for the biggest game and the others are for whatever people ask for. So if you’re not seeing the game you want, just ask and they’ll sort you out.

They have a great pool table inside and the staff are always up for a game if you need an opponent.

This is probably the cheapest option on the list, or at least it was when I checked it out earlier this month.

Opening hours: 17:00 to 00:00 every day except Monday

Address: 12 Huay Kaew Rd, Chiang Mai 50300, Thailand

Flying Circus Sports Bar & Restaurant

Last up on my list is the Flying Circus Sports Bar & Restaurant. You’ll find it right next to Tha Phae Gate. This is a great place to watch sport in Chiang Mai. English and Australian flags were flying out the front when I popped it to watch an EPL game.

The problem is that it might now be closed. I heard it was closing when I was there. Google still says it’s open, and as it’s right next to the first two sports bars on this list you can check it out and see if it’s going strong.

It’s worth checking out.

Address: 186/1, Loi Khor Road, Chiang Mai 50100, Thailand

So there you have them. Enjoy. If you’re looking for more things to do in and around Chiang Mai, check out my post on what you need to do while in the city.
